The next e-commerce platform will combine video and shopping like never before
TweetThe future of online shopping and browsing is quickly changing for the better. Before long e-commerce will be old news while video commerce will be the wave of the future. You can see a live demonstration of the product Liveclicker has put together here. Since this is a new platform that Liveclicker has just made, it is not going to be ready for mass public consumption for a while, but in the mean time, you have to admit that this is neat.
The concept is simple and at first glance has the same features and feel of a YouTube video. This is a plus because they thought of the user not having to relearn a new system, nor did they make it complicated. The video plays and at the end displays images with small descriptions for the user to click on. The images are displayed as if they are links for the user to click to watch another video. On a mouse hover, a brief description of the product is displayed. When you click on it, it displays the price of the item and has a green buy button on it. When you click on either the hyperlink or the buy button you are sent to the products webpage for more information and to purchase the item.
I think that it’s a neat idea, but it’s not surprising either with the boom social media platforms like facebook and twitter taking over the way we think and act in our daily lives. It makes it so the user does not have to create a new tab to search for the item they want to purchase if they were watching a video at the time. Everything is there to make the user not think about anything.
I would assume that after a while it will have an option to place an item on hold at store and in the near future we will soon be able to make reservations for concerts, restaurants and many other options too.
Now if only we can have TV’s that allow you to order your food using a remote and you can pull it out of said TV a couple seconds later. Then that would definitely be impressive.

Politics and YouTube a recipe for disaster?
TweetThe topic of politics is a heated debate and often times can divide people who are normally friendly towards each other. It’s no secret that the power or social media is vast but is it really for everyone? It all depends on the message that your video is trying to convey.
Recently Republican Candidate Rick Perry launched a campaign on YouTube with his video entitled “Strong”. Unfortunately for Mr. Perry, the instantanious feedback from the public was not as forgiving with well over half a million dislikes on a single video. Ouch. Very painful indeed. This is seriously in much need of damage control, but this is not the way to do it. Using actions such as disabling the lie/dislike button, removing comments etc, is not really helping his cause in fact it’s making it worse. Pretty much the essence of what makes social media, well social media was removed.
As a vehicle of interacting with potential and current voters, this would have been a good way for the candidate to come online and face his attackers. There is a strong disapproval with the campaign he chose to use. Does he know why people are so upset over it? Does he care about what the public really thinks on this matter? By disabling comments on the video, he has lost the perfect opportunity clean things up.
I think there is a better way that should have been utilized in order to keep the video on YouTube as social as possible. Even though there is a lot of negative comments and dislikes, instead of disabling the comments, he could have a moderator go through them and remove and remove them individually from the page. They should do this not because the viewer disapproves of the message given, but because it is not appropriate for public consumption. Removing comments because the responder is not for your argument is a step in the wrong direction. Positive and negative comments are the internet’s form of debate and that is what is healthy. He should try to see what is upsetting the public so much with this campaign and try to compromise or seek out a better platform to reach his viewers better. If this was not the response he wanted to get for this campaign, he really needs to backtrack and come up with a different approach to let the voters know what he truly meant to say.

Planning a Viral Video may not always be the best Marketing option for your Business!
TweetA lot of businesses trying to sell their wares online are mainly geared to promote their products by trying to create their own viral videos. Now do not get me wrong, getting a viral video for your business campaign is awesome! I get that. But in all honesty, exactly how many videos are uploaded to YouTube per minute? Roughly 48 hours of video content a minute! 2 days worth of video a minute. And exactly what are the chances that your video will outshine and beat all of the other videos for that viral spotlight? Very slim to dismal frankly.
So yes the odds are quite bad, but a lot of campaigns spend a lot of time and effort painstakingly planning each of their video campaigns to be the next big viral break. But what a lot of them do not realize or are forgetting is that instead of working on building the viral video, they should focus and build a campaign that will help reach their intended niche market viewers. That way people who will want to buy their product will go out and buy it.
You should also, make a video that you would want to watch yourself! Honestly if you spend your time working on a video with a fine tooth comb and don’t even like what you are creating, chances are it will show in your videos. Why? Because you have no interest in it. Period. And just like you, people want to escape from reality, be entertained and have fun! A video that is planned from the beginning to become the next viral video, will falter, look fake and will ultimately ruin your campaign.
So what can you do instead?
Create a video for your campaign that will interest you but also focuses and highlights your product. Show the viewer why they should care about your product. Tell them why they need it, but do it in a way that if you were watching the video at home and had no idea what the product was about, the video would make you want to watch the video again and again. This will in turn make the viewer want to either buy the product or show it to someone they know would be interested in said product.
Don’t plan step by step a viral video. This is a recipe for failure. Make something worth watching and who knows, in the end the video may very well turn viral and you didn’t have to spend all that time wasting away trying to make it something that it was not. Viral videos are hard to achieve and even harder to plan out to achieve. They are chance encounters. The best way to achieve it is to not even try. A great example of this are the people for Orabrush.
They created their campaign with the idea of having a party and the whole web was invited. How cool is that?! They spent their time making videos that they wanted to see themselves and it paid off. Because if you make something that you love, you want to share it, and others may in fact want to watch it with just as much passion as you do and find some interest in it as well. Which made me realize that a lot of the successful campaigns and YouTube Channels are made with this very motif in mind. So lets have fun making video campaigns everybody!
